You know what? That thing, what’s it called? MOSFET, yeah, that’s it! It’s like a little switch in them electric things, you see?

My grandson, he’s a smart one, he tried to tell me how this MOSFET work. He said it’s like a gate for them tiny electric things. You open the gate, and the little things, they go through. You close it, and they can’t get through. It’s all about that how does the MOSFET work, he says.
He kept going on about “source” and “drain” and some “gate”. Sounds like some kinda plumbing to me! He said it’s important. He said it’s MOSFET. He said the MOSFET is in everything these days, phones, them computers, even them newfangled cars. Lord knows what else! But I reckon if it helps things work, then it must be alright.
He says that MOSFET, it’s everywhere! It is the most common type. It can control how much electricity can flow. I guess it’s like how much water you let through a spigot. Just the right amount, not too much, not too little. It’s all about that flow, you see. Just like when you’re waterin’ your plants, you gotta give ’em just the right amount, not too much, not too little.
And get this, they come in different sizes, these MOSFET things. Some are for big jobs, some for small. My grandson said something about “high-power” ones. I reckon those are for the big jobs, like them big machines they use for farming. They use a lot of juice, those things.

It’s workin’ hard!” Just like when you’re out in the sun all day, you get hot too. He said something about the electric thing that’s pullin’ too much juice, makin’ the MOSFET work too hard. That make sense?
You see, if you pull too much water through a pipe too fast, the pipe might burst. Or at least get real hot, right? I guess it is similar. I told you it was like plumbing! It’s all about controlling the flow.
